Hello Again 9-12ers,

This is a long yet important email that requires your attention and action. The issue addressed here will have as much an impact on your American freedom as the proposed health care 'reform'. Some of you may know a lot about this issue while others know little. This email is intended for all audiences.
The Issue
President Obama, White House Climate Czar Carol Browner, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are not waiting for Congress to pass cap-and-trade. They are attempting to illegally rewrite law to suit its own purposes and not the best interest of the American people. Why? Because we fought the bill and it slowed down when it reached the Senate.
What is Cap-and-Trade?
The American Clean Energy & Security Act or, Waxman-Markey for short, narrowly passed the House 219-212 in June. It now sits with the Senate. The bill relies on a 'cap-and-trade' approach which means facilities cut their emissions each year until the goal is achieved - total pollution is 'capped'. If some facilities have trouble cutting their emissions, they can 'trade' by buying more permits to pollute.
This approach was tried in Europe. What was result?
1.) Harmful volatility in energy prices
2.) Few greenhouse gas reductions
3.) Raised energy prices for consumers
4.) Creation of billions in windfall profits for special interest groups and lobbyists
There are 3 things you need to know about Cap-and-Trade:

2.) It's a tax,
3.) It's a tax
It's a tax in order to gain control. Just like health care 'reform' is about controlling our bodies and lives, cap-and-trade is about controlling the rest of our lives - which light bulbs we use, when we wash our dishes, which refrigerator we buy, which cars we drive, what we're allowed to do for a profession, etc. This is about control over our lifestyles and this is about huge international government control over your economic life.
As proven with today's announcement of change to mammogram recommendations, health care 'reform' will lead to health care rationing. Cap-and-trade is similar - it is an energy rationing scheme which ultimately redistributes the wealth. It will transfer wealth from the emissions emitters (businesses) to those who have invested in the lobbying efforts. This approach always translates into higher costs for consumers.
The Copenhagen Treaty
This is where the huge international government control comes to fruition. In early December, the US will be represented by its president at the UN Convention on Climate Change. As many of you saw in Lord Monckton's speech in October (click here for the short version), signing of this treaty would cede U.S. sovereignty by creating a world government which would require the U.S. to follow the exact same rules and regulations as every other country in the world regardless of those countries' contribution to economic growth and worldwide prosperity. From Freedom Works website:
"Existing efforts to address carbon dioxide output, such as the Kyoto Protocol, are rigged against the United States and exempt some of the fastest growing producers, such as China, India, Brazil and South Korea. It makes little sense to handicap the U.S. economy in the name of global warming and then watch production shift to our competitors overseas. It also is unsettling that some of the groups and organizations pushing action on global warming — such as the United Nations, the environmental movement, and former Vice President Al Gore— have substantial institutional, ideological, and financial stakes in creating a restrictive new layer of global warming regulation."
This proposal is not only unrealistic for the U.S. to execute, it is worldwide redistribution of wealth by levying huge taxes and fines on producing nations and redistributing those monies to lesser and even non-producing nations.
America has the highest environmental quality in the world and we're the richest nation in the world. That is not a coincidence. Wealthier is healthier, healthier is cleaner - naturally - through free markets. Taxing the people of this world will not make everyone richer. It will make everyone poorer and all will suffer.
Today's Problem
News Alert: Because we have spoken up and slowed the progress of the Cap-and-Trade bill in the Senate, the Obama administration is going around the American people. They seek to use regulation, not legislation, to take control of another large portion of our economy through the EPA. It won't be surprising to hear that this was originally conceived by Obama Climate Czar Carol Browner in the late 1990s. The EPA is now moving ahead with greenhouse gas regulations under the 1970 Clean Air Act. The original author of 1970 Clean Air Act, Rep. John Dingell (D-Michigan) who supports cap-and-trade, says the Obama Administration's latest move is a recipe for disaster:
"We are looking at the possibility of a glorious mess being visited upon this country. This is not what was intended by the Congress and by those of us who wrote the Clean Air Act. We are beginning to look at a wonderfully complex world, which has the potential for shutting down or slowing down virtually all industry and all economic activity and growth."

The EPA is attempting, illegally, to rewrite the law by handpicking which industries and carbon emitters it will regulate. (Click here for details) Not only is it illegal, but it's also ineffective, because state regulators and courts will still be able to use these regulations to shut down the whole U.S. economy, according to Mr. James Valvo of Americans For Prosperity (Click here for Mr. Valvo's policy paper).
