Pro-immigration reform march - March 21

Postby lori » 12 Feb 2010 09:06

There is a march on DC led by Border Action Network on March 21 that is purported to be attended by 100K people. This is supposed to be a key date linked to movement of legislation-can't verify that at the time of this posting though myself. This group has already sent 20K pro-immigration postcards to DC.

What is our side doing in terms of coordinated efforts? Are we waiting on marching orders from pundits? I know part of their whining is a result of state and local legislation unfriendly to illegals. Post what you learn of coordinated efforts we can get behind and I will do the same.

Here's a few ideas regarding the Illegal Immigration isssue...

Organize a counter protest for Mar 21 at the State Capitol

We could lead up to that with a few events/meeting...

See if we can get D.A. King, or Billy & Cathy Inman to speak to our group.
One of our members Jill is the leader of a GA Minutemen group. She has a video about the Illegal immigration/drug trade that she'd said in the past that she would like to show our group.

Illegal Immigration is an issue that I feel very strongly about. Lori if you would like I can help you work on this.

I see the issue as a dead horse. Immigration's hey day was under the Bush administration. As it turns out, illegals are going back home due to the crappy economy. I would give this one a pass and keep our energies focused. We truly have to pick and choose our fights carefully.

I have to agree with Springer on this one. As you know, they are trying to paint the guy that flew his plane into the IRS building as a "tea party terrorist." On top of that, with the Congress and President we have now( not to mention Governor, and most of the candidates for Gov.) in place, illegal immigration isn't nearly the problem it was even 5 or 6 years ago. It IS a problem, but I think focusing on turning around the government as a whole, and turning around people's attitudes toward their own liberty, and why the government is there is perhaps a bit more important right now.

Of course, that's just me. If whatever we do is in line with the 9 and the 12 ( or other reasonable principles) I'm with ya.

Well anyone that thought that this was a dead issue... Lindsey Rino Graham and Chuck Sleezebag Schumer are working together to put forward an new Amnesty bill which includes a national ID card. I think they will use the ID card as a distraction and slip in all the "immigration reform" ie: Amnesty that they can get past the American people while we're worrying about if Illegals should have an ID card.

I saw Lindsey on the news this morning and I think that there's a deal in the works. I won't be suprised when i see him pushing goverment control of healthcare. He'll start by saying we're working w/ the president to insure that bipartisan ideas are included or some crap like that and that americans should support the measures... etc..

The "issue" isn't dead, it's just not as big a deal as it once was, iMHO.

As for all this stuff( plus the coming national ID card) I'm afraid we can't protest our way out of it. elections have consequences.

what would stop it, as a nation or as a movement, we aren't willing to do. ( and I fear we may never be)

I didn't mean it was a dead issue in that it wasn't important. I meant it was dead as in generating national passion. I have a strong sympathetic side that thinks that if I had been born in central Mexico(where I have visited on business several times), I might be one of those in a poultry plant plucking chickens in Gaineseville. I grew up poor and take my hat off to anyone that strives to make it.

If we were not an entitlement state, it would not make a difference. But that is not the case. You want to fix illegal immagration, remove entitlements. The rest will take care of itself.

Or build the $^#& wall that was promised us, and put up sniper towers every 100 yards.

I understand why they come here too, but it's not just people looking to make a living for their families that come here. Plus, the drain on our systems costs the native americans( not the native(Indian) Americans - you and I and anyone born here) money and taxes to support them. I know why most of them sneak into the US and send money back home, but that doesn't make it right. Their illegal activities infringes on my liberty( or at least my wallet).
